3.41

舉僧問法眼。聲色兩字。如何透得。眼云。大眾若會這僧問處。透聲色也不難。師云。從前不了。祇因家賊難防。直下分明。且向草菴止宿。

[The Master] cited: A monk asked Fayan: “The two words ‘sound’ and ‘form’—how can one penetrate them?” Fayan said: “If the great assembly understands where this monk is asking, penetrating sound and form will not be difficult either.”
The Master said: “Previously not understanding was only because thieves of the household are hard to guard against. Directly clear right now, for the time being dwell in a thatched hut.”
