舉洞山問密師伯。作什麼。密云把針。山云把針事作麼生。密云。針針相似。山云。二十年同行。作這語話。密云。長老又作麼生。山云。大地火發。師云。大地火發。間不容髮。南海崑崙。天寒不𮧬。祖祖相傳。一頭搕𢶍。

[The Master] cited: Dongshan asked Senior Monk Mi, "What are you doing?" Mi said, "Holding a needle." Dongshan said, "What is holding a needle like?" Mi said, "Stitch after stitch resembles each other." Dongshan said, "Having traveled together for twenty years, you still make such talk!" Mi said, "What about the Elder?" Dongshan said, "The great earth bursts into flame." The Master said, "'The great earth bursts into flame'—not a hair's breadth between them. The Kunlun of the South Seas does not shiver in cold weather. Handed down from patriarch to patriarch, a whole pile of rubbish."
