3.97

舉大慈示眾云。說得一丈。不如行得一尺。說得一尺。不如行得一寸。洞山云。說取行不得底。行取說不得底。雲居云。行時無說路。說時無行路。不行不說時。合行什麼路。洛浦云。行說俱不到。則本事在。行說俱到。則本事無。師云。絕是非沒蹤跡。相逢不識面。識面不相逢。諸尊宿。各有長處。如今舌頭上無十字關。脚跟下無五色線。要行便行。要說便說。若有人問長蘆。如何是要行便行。云步。如何是要說便說。云啊。

He cited: Daci instructed the assembly, saying: “Speaking ten feet is not as good as practicing one foot; speaking one foot is not as good as practicing one inch.” / Dongshan said: “Speak what cannot be practiced; practice what cannot be spoken.” / Yunju said: “When practicing, there is no path of speech; when speaking, there is no path of practice. When neither practicing nor speaking, what path should one follow?” / Luopu said: “When neither practice nor speech reaches, then the fundamental affair remains; when both practice and speech reach, then the fundamental affair is gone.” / The Master said: “Sever right and wrong, leave no trace. Meeting each other, one does not recognize the face; recognizing the face, one does not meet. All the venerable masters had their strengths. Today, on my tongue there is no crossroads barrier, and under my heels there is no five-colored cord: if I want to walk, I walk; if I want to speak, I speak. If someone were to ask Changlu: ‘What is wanting to walk and immediately walking?’, I say: ‘Steps.’ ‘What is wanting to speak and immediately speaking?’, I say: ‘Ah!’”
