Ascending the hall on New Year's Day: The heavens are vast and clear; the earth holds moisture. Abundant rain aids in cleansing; the proper breath assists with gentle breeze. The wheel of function turns and subtly activates the primordial pivot; the pitch-pipes are tuned and elegantly form the new scale. Cold crags return to warmth; withered trees revive anew. Everywhere treads in spring; everyone receives the year. On the part of patch-robed monks, there is fundamentally no birth. Before the hall of the rustic old man, why should there be mutual congratulations? Why is it like this? Heaven and earth unite with the Way, completely unobstructed; grasses and trees enter their splendor, determined by their time.
