上堂廓不可得其際。湛兮或存。妙不可得其名。靈然自照。釋迦以此而掩室。淨名以此而杜辭。少林九年垂一則語。諸人還體悉得麼。夜半木童敲月戶。天明玉鳳笑𭊷華。

Ascending the hall: So vast that its boundaries cannot be found, yet fathomless, it seems to exist. So subtle that its name cannot be found, spiritually it shines of itself. Śākyamuni closed his room on account of this; Vimalakīrti held his tongue on account of this. For nine years at Shaolin, a single phrase was handed down. Do you all understand? At midnight the wooden boy knocks on the moon-lit door; / At dawn the jade phoenix laughs at the blooming flower.
