尼請上堂。不是心不是物。非天非人。非僧非俗。南北東西莫我尋。長短方圓莫我惻。牛飲星河兔眠月窟。徹底靈明破昏塞。末山超拔兮頂相不形。鐵磨變通兮舌頭無骨。

At a nun's request, [Hongzhi] ascended the hall: "Not mind, not a thing; not celestial, not human; not monk, not lay. North, south, east, and west cannot search for me; long, short, square, and round cannot fathom me. The ox drinks from the River of Stars, the rabbit sleeps in the moon's cave; thoroughly luminous and spiritual, it shatters darkness and obstruction. Moshan was transcendent—the mark of her crown was unformed; Tiemo was adaptable—her tongue had no bone."
