上堂舉。洞山到興平便禮拜。平云。莫禮老朽。山云。禮非老朽者。平云。它且不受禮。山云。它亦曾不禮。師云。渠非老朽。不禮不受。威音世前。毘盧頂後。把定壺中白日長。觸著匣內青蛇吼。良醫叮囑病人。服藥不如忌口。

[Hongzhi] ascended the hall and brought up: "When Dongshan arrived at Xingping, he immediately bowed. Xingping said, 'Do not bow to this old and decayed one.' Dongshan said, 'Bowing is not to the old and decayed one.' Xingping said, 'That one does not accept bows.' Dongshan said, 'That one has also never bowed.'" The Master said, "That one is not old and decayed; it does not bow and does not accept. Before the era of Bhīṣmagarjitasvararāja, behind the crown of Vairocana. Held fast, the white sun inside the vase is long; touched upon, the green snake within the box roars. A good physician admonishes the patient: taking medicine is not as good as avoiding harmful foods."
