4.142

結夏上堂。諸禪德。十方大地是我一箇身。便能禁足。十方眾生是我一箇漢。方解護生。禁足也步步不妄行。護生也心心不妄動。所以道。以大圓覺為我伽藍。身心安居平等性智。我禁足也。不礙諸人禁足。我護生也。不礙諸人護生。佛佛到此道同。人人住茲法爾。還會麼。彼我空空無障礙。自他法法本融通。

Ascending the hall at the start of the summer retreat: Venerable Zen worthies! The great earth of the ten directions is my single body; then one can restrict one's footsteps. The sentient beings of the ten directions are my single fellow; only then does one understand protecting life. Restricting footsteps: step by step, one does not walk falsely. Protecting life: thought by thought, one does not stir falsely. Therefore it is said: 'Taking great perfect enlightenment as my saṅghārāma, body and mind abide peacefully in the wisdom of equality.' My restricting footsteps does not obstruct everyone from restricting footsteps; my protecting life does not obstruct everyone from protecting life. Buddhas reaching this point share the same path; everyone abiding here is naturally so. Do you understand? Self and other are both empty, without obstruction; / Oneself and others, phenomenon by phenomenon, are fundamentally harmonized and interfused.
