Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "Fengxue instructed the assembly, saying, 'If a single speck of dust is established, the family style flourishes; if not a single speck of dust is established, the family style perishes.'" The Master said: "Establishing a single speck of dust, what is its enjoyment? Why does the rustic old man knit his brows? Not establishing a single speck of dust, what is its enjoyment? Why does the rustic old man sing songs? Here again I point it out: / How much joy, how much sorrow, / Worth watching on the rustic old man's two brows. / The family style is calm and peaceful, clear as a mirror; / The water thins and the mountain empties, the same autumn. / With adaptable methods, body and mind are free; / No fear of wind and surging waves when snow embraces the boat. / A single pull topples the three mountains upon the sea; / Six giant turtles hooked in succession upon the golden line. / Venerable Chan practitioners, one must realize it like this, one must use it like this. And how do you understand it thoroughly? / Mount Hua's peaks reach into the sky; / The Yellow River rolls along its bed."
