陸宜人請上堂舉。陸亘大夫問南泉。弟子親從六合來。彼中還有身麼。泉云。分明記取舉似作家。師云。空不可有。具足無邊際身。妙不可亡。具足無邊際用。在天同天。在人同人。在彼同彼。在此同此。雖然天人彼此。要且不與它合。所以主不自主。乃能一切處主。賓不自賓。乃能一切處賓。若能恁麼去。不唯覷破南泉。亦知陸大夫出生入死。縱橫變態。不與身拘。還體悉得。明月隨人如有以。白雲作雨也無心。

Ascending the hall at the request of Lady Lu, he cited: Grand Master Lu Gen asked Nanquan, "This disciple comes directly from the six directions; is there still a body within them?" Nanquan said, "Remember it clearly and cite it to an adept." The Master said: Emptiness cannot be existent, yet it possesses a boundless body; the marvellous cannot be extinguished, yet it possesses boundless function. In heaven, it is one with heaven; among humans, it is one with humans. In that place, it is one with that; in this place, it is one with this. Although there are heaven, humans, that, and this, fundamentally it does not merge with them. Therefore, the host does not take itself as host, and thus can be host in all places; the guest does not take itself as guest, and thus can be guest in all places. If you can proceed in this way, you will not only see through Nanquan, but also know that Grand Master Lu is born into and dies out of [phenomena], transforming freely in all aspects without being constrained by a body. Do you still comprehend it? The bright moon follows people as if purposeful; / The white clouds bring rain with no mind.
