上堂。水不洗水。金不博金。眼不見眼。心不用心。能恁麼去。不墮根境識。那涉去來今。迷裏忽然逢達磨。何曾特地作叢林。

Ascending the hall: / Water does not wash water; / Gold does not barter for gold. / The eye does not see the eye; / The mind does not employ the mind. / If you can go on like this, you will not fall into sense faculties, sense objects, or consciousness; how could you be involved in past, future, or present? / In the midst of delusion, suddenly encountering Bodhidharma, / When did he ever deliberately create a monastic grove?
