Ascending the hall on the commencement of the summer retreat: "I abide and you also abide; I walk and you also walk. Establishing the retreat accords with all Buddhas; confining our steps protects sentient beings. The golden lock has no beard, moving at both ends; the magical rhinoceros horn has a halo, luminous in the middle. The mud ox enters the sea precisely at midnight; the wooden rooster calls to the moon, watching at the fifth watch. Clouds leaning on the mountain are father and son; eyes matching eyebrows are brothers. Studying together across the three periods of time, accomplishing an affair that unites the lineage tradition. With a measure equal to the great chiliocosm, breaking a fine dust particle and bringing forth one's own sūtra. In the forest of gems, every inch is a treasure; of sandalwood, every piece is fragrant. In each and every thing, there is so much that emerges naturally; in mind after mind and dharma after dharma, not a single speck comes from outside. Slapping and knocking, a foolish skin bag; limping and staggering, Sadāparibhūta. Without right and without wrong, constantly silent; neither ordinary nor sacred, uniquely wide awake. How can one travel and practice so as to correspond with this? Sitting leaning on the rush cushion with no other concerns, throughout the long day in tranquil solitude, giving thanks for the great peace."
