四月八日上堂。清淨性空水。光明法界身。依俙辨白處。便是誕生人。不洗體不洗塵。妙觸宣明悟水因。借問。當年向去事。如何今日却來親。二千年前此時候。指天指地師子吼。雲門居亂思大平。打殺不妨將餧狗。指東話西。將無作有。惡水潑君君莫嗔。而今看爾如何受。佛云。不受諸受。是名正受。若恁麼也。涓滴不落別處。

Ascending the hall on the eighth day of the fourth month: "The pure water of empty nature; the luminous body of the Dharma realm. Where it is vaguely discerned and clarified is precisely the Person who is born. Neither washing the body nor washing off the dust; the wondrous touch clearly proclaimed awakens to the cause of water. May I ask: what was the affair departing in that year? Why does it turn around today and become so intimate? At this time two thousand years ago, pointing to heaven and pointing to earth, a lion roared. Yunmen, dwelling in chaos, thought of great peace: beating him to death and feeding him to the dogs would have done no harm. Pointing east and speaking of west; taking nothingness to make existence. Filthy water is splashed on you, do not be angry; now let us see how you receive it. The Buddha said: 'Not receiving any feelings is called right reception.' If it is like this, not a single drop falls anywhere else."
