4.40

上堂云。蛇鑽不入鳥飛不度。我道。人人在裏許。三更明月下西山。一陣清霜脫寒樹參。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "A snake cannot burrow in, and a bird cannot fly across. I say: Everyone is inside. In the third watch, the bright moon sinks behind the western mountain; a blast of clear frost strips the cold trees. Examine!"
