4.57

上堂云。身非塵聚。卓卓妙存。心非情緣。冥冥獨學。其體也出諸障礙。其用也得大自在。無去無來。非顯非晦。應色應聲。亡對亡待。饅頭胡餅觀世音。還我當行家賣買。

Ascending the hall, he said: "The body is not an accumulation of dust, standing toweringly, wondrously present. The mind is not tied to sensory conditions, darkly solitary and self-taught. Its substance transcends all obstacles; its function attains great autonomy. Neither going nor coming, neither evident nor obscure. Responding to forms and sounds, it abandons opposites and counterparts. Steamed buns, sesame cakes, and Avalokiteśvara—return to me the buying and selling of one skilled in the trade."
