4.65

上堂云。只箇家風。八面玲瓏。斗柄橫而河淡。夢鶴起而巢空。功中退步就位。位裏移身借功。靈靈了了處。同中有異。湛湛澄澄處。異中有同。隨宜也機輪宛轉。妙應也關棙虛通。所以道。佛子住此地。即是佛受用。經行及坐臥。常在於其中。諸禪德且道。其中事作麼生。良久云。萬古碧潭空界月。再三撈攏始應知。

Ascending the hall, he said: "Just this family style is clear and open on all eight sides. The handle of the Dipper lies across and the Milky Way pales; the dreaming crane takes flight and its nest is empty. Stepping back in function to take up position; shifting the body within position to borrow function. At the numinous and lucid place, within sameness there is difference; at the clear and still place, within difference there is sameness. Suiting the occasion, the dynamic pivot revolves smoothly; responding wondrously, the mechanism opens into emptiness. Therefore it is said: 'When a child of the Buddha dwells in this station, / that is the Buddha's state of enjoyment; / whether walking, sitting, or lying down, / they are constantly within it.' Zen worthies, tell me: what is the affair within it?" After a long pause, he said: "The moon in the empty realm over the eternal green pool—only after repeatedly netting and capturing it will you know."
