4.83

天寧節上堂云。主中之主天中天。家勢金輪萬代傳。退步不居尊貴位。借功却作誕生緣。廓虛印上無瑕垢。明白機頭有轉旋。劫數不能知壽量。湛存象外自綿綿。諸禪德。還覷得破箇中行履處麼。良久云。獨據道樞成父祖。主持世界付兒孫。

Ascending the hall on the Tianning Festival, [the Master] said: Host within the host, heaven within the heavens; the family estate of the golden wheel is transmitted for ten thousand generations. Stepping back, he does not reside in the noble rank; borrowing function, he makes conditions for birth. Upon the expansive, empty seal, there is no flaw or defilement; at the clear and bright functioning, there is turning and revolving. The number of kalpas cannot measure the lifespan; serenely abiding beyond form, it is naturally uninterrupted. Zen worthies! Do you see through the path of practice within this? After a long pause, he said: Alone occupying the pivot of the Way, becoming father and grandfather; upholding and presiding over the world, passing it on to children and grandchildren.
