范相公入山請陞座舉。裴相國訪黃檗。裴指畫壁問云。畫像在這裏。高僧在什麼處。檗高聲召相公。公應諾。檗云。是什麼。公於言下有省。師云。且道。裴相國省得箇甚麼。良久云。莫怪坐來頻勸酒。自從別後見君稀。

Minister Fan entered the mountain and requested [the Master] to take the high seat. [The Master] cited: Prime Minister Pei visited Huangbo. Pei pointed to a wall painting and asked, "The portrait is right here; where is the eminent monk?" Huangbo called out loudly, "Minister!" The Minister responded, "Yes?" Huangbo said, "What is it?" The Minister was awakened at those words. The Master said: Tell me, what did Prime Minister Pei awaken to? After a long pause, he said: Do not blame me for frequently urging wine as we sit; since parting from you, I have rarely seen you.
