3.61

[Hongzhi] cited: Qianfeng instructed the assembly, saying, "Raising one, you must not raise two; letting one move pass, you fall into the second." Yunmen came forward from the assembly and said, "Yesterday someone came from Tiantai, and then went off to Jingshan." Qianfeng said, "Tomorrow there will be no communal work." The Master [Hongzhi] said, "Sitting firmly, cutting off the ten directions, the road of a thousand distinctions is severed. Letting open a single line, ten thousand streams pay homage to their source. When the two venerable masters expand their house style, only then can one see the actions of patch-robed monks. Is it genuinely so? The edict within the realm of the Son of Heaven of Great Peace; / The mind beyond the frontier of the blood-and-sweat general."
