The Master said: "Releasing one's hands, walking along the Chang'an road; every single thing is at ease." The monk proceeded: "If so, then the six doors are not closed, and on the four thoroughfares there are no tracks." The Master said: "Do not bring eyes and ears along; according to the circumstances, enjoy its use." The monk proceeded: "Avalokiteśvara buys a sesame cake; opening the hand, it is a steamed bun." The Master said: "What about on your part?" The monk proceeded: "Let it fill the ravines and dam the gullies, mixing with mud and wallowing in water." The Master said: "Hu the third and Hei the fourth know nothing of each other." The Master then said: "All forms do not obstruct the eyes—dynamic potential activates within Mañjuśrī's gate. All sounds do not become ear-dust—thorough penetration occurs within Avalokiteśvara's gate. All functions are not constrained by the body; all responses do not run contrary to affairs. Then one emerges and vanishes within Samantabhadra's gate. Robbing the realm is like a donkey peering into a well; robbing the person is like a well peering into a donkey. In three thousand worlds, hundreds of millions of bodies—without arrangement, this alone is it. Practice!"
