Penetrating a single thread, one possesses the eye that responds to the world and meets circumstances, accurately not falling away; the myriad conditions cannot bury it. The moon descends into water, the wind passes through pines; light and shadows do not confound me, sounds do not halt me. Quietly able to respond, it is indeed an image that transcends restraint. Flowing out into branches according with affairs, precisely without divergence, this is still having penetrated and cast off the dust-net without yet reaching the original home. Rest from remaining conditions, sit until dust-thoughts are emptied, silent yet clear, pure yet illuminating, empty yet accommodating, expansive yet responsive. Do not make an opponent of external dust; clearly and distinctly, singly numinous. Reaching such a ground, only then do you recognize the venerable ancestor.
