True purity leaves no trace; when merited effort is completely exhausted, at that time there is nothing to distinguish. Although there is nothing to distinguish, it is the entire body. The visual faculty does not see itself, nor can it obscure that. Radiance emerges from this place, pristine and universally illuminating. Reed blossoms mingle with snow; the bright moon washes autumn. Then there is the pivot of mutual interpenetration, the path of mutual reflection. Vigorously bring it forth to apply, and it is fitting. Nowhere outside can exclude me; nowhere inside can contain me. Standing out a head above the myriad phenomena, Juzhi's one-finger Chan was not exhausted by thirty years of use. Those who attain the subtlety are succinct; thus in silence they do not engage in speech. Those who attain the function are at ease; thus in responding they do not bump into things. Traveling in the Way and governing the spirit—the principle is originally like this. If suddenly amid it you attach a single hair or a single speck of dust, the central pivot will be obstructed and will not penetrate, the mechanism will be blocked and will not turn. The utterly empty place contains all existence; the place of all existence accords with a patch of emptiness. What further matter could there be?
