出隊上堂。大眾。竿木隨身。逢場作戲。釋迦老子毒花開。達磨大師王小二。吹笛打鼓攙行奪市。萬像森羅笑點頭。打圓相云。總在自家場子裏。且道。只今末後一場。如何喝彩。還相委悉麼。解佩行香下水船。回紋撥棹賀新年。

Ascending the hall on setting out on an alms-begging round, [the Master said]: "Assembly! Carrying the pole along with oneself, playing the fool wherever one goes. Old Man Śākya blooms with poisonous flowers; Master Bodhidharma is Wang the Second. Blowing flutes and beating drums, jostling the ranks and seizing the market. The myriad forms and phenomena nod in smiles." Drawing a circle, he said: "All of it is within one's own arena. But tell me, right now in this final scene, how do we cheer? Do you fully understand? / Loosening the pendant, offering incense on the downriver boat; / With woven pattern, dipping the oars to greet the New Year."
