上堂。一番雨一番風。風雨湖山圖畫中。莫有全機領略底麼。風搖水色瑠璃滑。雨潑山光翡翠濃。尚餘瞌睡。咄。杜鵑啼血滴花紅。

Ascending the hall, [the Master said]: "A spell of rain, a spell of wind; / Wind and rain in the lake and mountains like a painting. / Is there anyone who comprehends the full function? / Wind shakes the water's color, slippery as lapis lazuli; / Rain dashes mountain light, deep emerald green. / Still drowsy with sleep? / Bah! / The cuckoo weeps blood, dripping red onto flowers."
