上堂。今朝九月初一。打板普請坐禪。第一切忌瞎睡。直下猛烈為先。忽然爆破漆桶。豁如雲散秋天。劈脊棒迸胸拳。晝夜方纔不可眠。虛空消殞更消殞。透過威音未朕前。咦栗棘金圈恣交𫋴。凱歌高賀徹風顛。

Ascending the hall: Today is the first day of the ninth month; strike the clappers and invite everyone to sit in meditation. First and foremost, avoid sleeping blindly; being fierce and vigorous right underfoot is paramount. Suddenly bursting open the lacquer bucket, vast as clouds dispersing into the autumn sky. A staff splitting the back, a fist striking the chest—only then day and night can one not sleep. Empty space vanishes and vanishes further, penetrating through to before any omen of Bhīṣmagarjitasvararāja. Yi! Chestnut burrs and golden rings freely interlocking; high songs of victory resounding in ecstatic frenzy.
