Minor convocation on the autumn gathering for the Empress’s Hall:
“The Wonderful Sound, Avalokiteśvara, is fully endowed with spiritual power; in all the lands of the ten directions, there is no realm where she does not manifest her body. Thereupon, adorned in celestial, wondrous divine robes, she sits upright in the Kunning Treasure Hall, assisting the single ruler’s imperial transformation and serving as a maternal model for myriad states. Her moral virtue is pure and brilliant; her rain of gifts brings auspicious peace. It brings her radiance to equal the sun and moon, with spring breezes flourishing forever on the golden branches; her longevity matches the mountains and rivers, with auspicious vapors eternally fresh on the jade leaves. Circling the true realm of Vairocana, she radiates the wondrous flower of bodhi. Today, celebrating the encounter with clear autumn and joyfully receiving this auspicious turn of fortune, she specially bestows great giving and establishes this minor convocation, poking open the eyes of Buddhas and Patriarchs, universally gathering the nostrils of gods and humans. One tap, one chant, exhausting the foolish sincerity under the forest; rejoicing and gazing up, fulfilling the vows of heaven. Vast as the Dharmadhātu, ultimate as empty space. Just at such a moment—”
Striking a circle with the whisk, he said: “The Wonderful Sound, Avalokiteśvara, preaches the Dharma just like this! And tell me, how is the phrase ‘the four assemblies joined their palms, faithfully received, and practiced it’?
In the heavens, all the stars bow toward the North;
Among humankind, no water fails to flow east.”
