1.51

垂示云。恁麼恁麼。不恁麼不恁麼。若論戰也。箇箇立在轉處。所以道。若向上轉去。直得釋迦彌勒。文殊普賢。千聖萬聖。天下宗師。普皆飲氣吞聲。若向下轉去。醯雞蠛蠓。蠢動含靈。一一放大光明。一一壁立萬仞。儻或不上不下。又作麼生商量。有條攀條。無條攀例。試舉看。

The pointer says: Like this, like this; not like this, not like this. In terms of battle, each stands at the turning place. Therefore it is said: If one turns upward, it directly causes Śākya and Maitreya, Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra, the thousand sages and ten thousand sages, and the lineage masters under heaven all to swallow their breath and choke back their voices. If one turns downward, vinegar gnats and midges, the wriggling and fluttering living beings, each emit great bright light, each standing like a precipitous cliff of ten thousand fathoms. If, perchance, it is neither upward nor downward, how would you deliberate? If there is a rule, follow the rule; if there is no rule, follow precedent. Try to cite [the case] and look.
