雪竇頌古百則。叢林學道詮要也。其間取譬經論或儒家文史。以發明此事。非具眼宗匠時為後學擊揚剖析。則無以知之。

Xuedou's Hundred Verse Eulogies on Antiquity are the essential explanation for studying the Way in the chan groves. In them, metaphors are drawn from sūtras, treatises, or Confucian literature and history to illuminate this matter. If masters of the lineage possessing the eye did not frequently expound, analyze, and dissect them for later students, there would be no way to understand them.
