雪竇頌古百則圜悟重下注脚。單示叢林。永垂宗旨經也。學人機鋒捷出。大慧密室勘辨。知無實詣。毀梓不傳權也。此書諸佛正眼列祖大機。兩經鉗鎚。一無瑕纇。茲欲與大慧長書並駕。同圜悟心要兼行。揭杲日於迷途。指南鍼於慧海。快然一覩。開彼群愚。相與圓成。不無利益。幸甚。

Xuedou's Hundred Verse Eulogies on Antiquity, with Yuanwu's added commentary, were solely demonstrated to the chan groves to serve forever as the standard canon of the lineage宗旨. When students' dynamic sharpness emerged too quickly, Dahui tested and examined them in the secret room and, knowing they had no real attainment, burned the printing blocks so as not to transmit it—this was an expedient measure. This book contains the true eye of all buddhas and the great dynamic of the ancestral masters; having twice passed through the forge and tongs, it is free of any blemish or flaw. Now, desiring it to run abreast of Dahui's long letters and travel alongside Yuanwu's Heart Essentials, revealing the bright sun to those on confused paths and pointing the compass on the ocean of wisdom, so that with a joyful glance it will open the deluded masses and bring them together to complete fruition, this will surely not be without benefit. Most fortunate indeed!
