4.11

垂示云。東西不辨南北不分。從朝至暮從暮至朝。還道伊瞌睡麼。有時眼似流星。還道伊惺惺麼有時呼南作北。且道是有心是無心。是道人是常人。若向箇裏透得。始知落處。方知古人恁麼不恁麼。且道是什麼時節。試舉看。

The pointer says: Not discerning east from west, not distinguishing south from north; from morning to evening, from evening to morning—do you say he is asleep? Sometimes his eyes are like shooting stars—do you say he is awake? Sometimes he calls south north—tell me, does he have mind or no mind? Is he a person of the Way or an ordinary person? If you can penetrate through here, only then will you know where it rests; only then will you know why the ancients acted thus or did not act thus. Tell me, what time is this? Try to cite it for examination.
