6.46

【六〇】舉。雲門以拄杖示眾云（點化在臨時。殺人刀活人劍。換却爾眼睛了也）拄杖子化為龍（何用周遮。用化作什麼）吞却乾坤了也（天下衲僧性命不存。還礙著咽喉麼。闍黎向什麼處安身立命）山河大地甚處得來（十方無壁落。四面亦無門。東西南北四維上下。爭奈這箇何）。

[Case 60] Case: Yunmen showed his staff to the assembly and said:
(Transforming and instructing depends on the moment. The sword that kills people, the sword that gives life to people. He has swapped your eyes.)
"The staff has transformed into a dragon
(What need is there for circumlocution? What use is transforming it into something?)
and swallowed up heaven and earth.
(The lives of the patch-robed monks of the realm do not remain. Does it still obstruct your throat? Ācārya, where will you settle your body and establish your life?)
Where do the mountains, rivers, and great earth come from?"
(The ten directions have no walls, and the four sides have no gates either. East, west, south, north, the four intermediate directions, above and below—how can one deal with this?)
