適來雙提了也。這裏却只拈一邊。放一邊裁長補短。捨重從輕。所以道。野老從教不展眉。我且圖家國立雄基。謀臣猛將今何在。雪竇拈拄杖云。還有同生同死底衲僧麼。一似道還有謀臣猛將麼。一口吞却一切人了也。所以道。土曠人稀相逢者少。還有相知者麼。出來一坑埋却。萬里清風只自知便。是雪竇點胸處也。

Just now both sides were brought up together; here, he brings up only one side and leaves the other side alone, trimming the long to mend the short, forgiving the heavy and applying the light. Therefore he says: "Let the rustic elder not unfurl his brows; for now, I aim to establish a mighty foundation for the country. Where are the scheming ministers and fierce generals now?" When Xuedou held up his staff and said, "Are there any patch-robed monks who will live together and die together?" it was just like saying, "Are there any scheming ministers and fierce generals?" In one mouthful he swallowed everyone up. Therefore it is said: "The land is wide, people are few; those who meet are rare." Is there anyone who understands? Come forth, and I will bury you in one pit! "The pure wind across ten thousand miles is known only to itself"—this is where Xuedou patted his own chest.
