【八〇】舉。僧問趙州。初生孩子。還具六識也無（閃電之機。說什麼初生孩兒子）趙州云。急水上打毬子（過也。俊鷂趁不及。也要驗過）僧復問投子。急水上打毬子。意旨如何（也是作家同驗過。還會麼。過也）子云。念念不停流（打葛藤漢）。

[Case 80] A monk asked Zhaozhou, "Does a newborn infant still possess the six consciousnesses or not?" (The dynamic of a lightning flash. Why talk about a newborn infant?)
Zhaozhou said, "Hitting a ball on swift water." (Gone past! Even a swift falcon cannot catch up. One must test it out.)
The monk also asked Touzi, "'Hitting a ball on swift water'—what is its meaning?" (An adept testing it together. Do you understand? Gone past!)
Touzi said, "Flowing uninterrupted thought after thought." (A fellow making entangling vines).
