[84] Case: Vimalakīrti asked Mañjuśrī, (This fellow makes a great commotion. Shut your mouth!) "What is the bodhisattva's entrance into the Dharma-gate of non-duality?" (Knowingly committing the offense.) Mañjuśrī said, "As I understand it, (What is he saying? He cannot sort it out at all; carrying the cangue and presenting a deposition, taking the topknot and surrendering to the magistrate's court.) with respect to all phenomena, (What do you call 'all phenomena'?) there is no word and no speech, (What is he saying?) no indication and no consciousness, (Deceiving someone else would do.) divorced from all questions and answers— (What is he saying?) this is the entrance into the Dharma-gate of non-duality." (What is the use of entering? What is the use of so many entangling vines?) Thereupon Mañjuśrī asked Vimalakīrti, "We have each spoken. Virtuous Sir, you should speak: what is the bodhisattva's entrance into the Dharma-gate of non-duality?" (This lean—do not speak of the Tathāgata Golden Grain; even if it were the Buddhas of the three periods, they could not open their mouths either. He has turned the spearhead around! Stabbing someone dead; when hit by the arrow, it is still like when shooting at others.) Xuedou said, "What did Vimalakīrti say?" (Bah! Ten thousand arrows piercing the heart. Explaining principles on his behalf.) He also said, "Exposed!" (Not only back then; right now it is also like this. Xuedou also pulls the bow after the thief has passed. Although exhausting his strength for the community, how can it prevent misfortune from coming out of his own private gate? Now tell me: did Xuedou still see where it lands? Not even in a dream. What talk of being exposed? Precarious! Even the golden-haired lion cannot grope for it.)
