舉。臨際將示滅。囑三聖（老婆臨死三廻別）吾遷化後。不得滅却吾正法眼藏（著甚死急）聖云。爭敢滅却和尚正法眼藏（佯小心故大膽）際云。忽有人問汝。作麼生對（虎口裏橫身）聖便喝（當機不讓父）際云。誰知。吾正法眼藏向這瞎驢邊滅却（重賞之下必有勇夫）。

Case: Linji, about to pass away, gave instructions to Sansheng: (An old woman bidding farewell three times as she nears death.) "After my passing, do not destroy my treasury of the eye of the true Dharma!" (What desperate hurry are you in?) Sansheng said, "How would I dare destroy the Venerable's treasury of the eye of the true Dharma?" (Pretending to be timid, but actually daring.) Linji said, "If someone suddenly asked you, how would you respond?" (Lying down in the tiger's mouth.) Sansheng then shouted. (Meeting the critical moment, he yields nothing to his father.) Linji said, "Who would have known that my treasury of the eye of the true Dharma would be destroyed by this blind donkey!" (Under high rewards there will always be brave men.)
