舉臨際將示滅。囑三聖云。吾遷化後。不得滅却吾正法眼藏。聖云。爭敢滅却和尚正法眼藏。際云。忽有人問汝。作麼生對。聖便喝。際云。誰知吾正法眼藏。向這瞎驢邊滅却。頌曰。
Case: When Linji was about to manifest nirvāṇa, he instructed Sansheng, saying, "After my passing, you must not destroy my treasury of the true Dharma eye." Sheng said, "How could I dare destroy the Venerable Master's treasury of the true Dharma eye?" Linji said, "If someone suddenly asks you, how will you respond?" Sheng immediately shouted. Linji said, "Who knew that my treasury of the true Dharma eye would be destroyed by this blind donkey!" The verse says:
