舉。溈山問仰山。甚處來（不是不知來處）仰云。田中來（儞為甚落草）山云。田中多少人（只父子兩箇）仰插下鍬子。叉手而立（放去較危）山云。南山大有人刈茆（打草驚蛇）仰拈鍬子便行（收來太速）。

Case: Guishan asked Yangshan, "Where have you come from?" (It is not that he didn't know where he came from.) Yangshan said, "From the fields." (Why have you fallen into the grass?) Guishan said, "How many people were in the fields?" (Just the two of us, father and son.) Yangshan thrust down his hoe and stood with hands folded. (Letting go is rather perilous.) Guishan said, "On South Mountain there are many people cutting thatch." (Beating the grass to startle the snakes.) Yangshan picked up his hoe and walked away at once. (Gathering it in too quickly.)
