舉。梁武帝問達磨大師（清旦起來不曾利市）如何是聖諦第一義（且向第二頭問）磨云。廓然無聖（劈腹剜心）帝云。對朕者誰（鼻孔裏認牙）磨云。不識（腦後見腮）帝不契（方木不入圓竅）遂渡江至少林面壁九年（家無滯貨不富）。

Case: Emperor Wu of Liang asked Great Master Bodhidharma (Rising early in the morning, business was not brisk), "What is the primary meaning of the holy truths?" (For now, ask toward the secondary realm.) / Bodhidharma said, "Vast and empty, nothing holy" (Splitting the belly and gouging out the heart). / The Emperor said, "Who is facing Us?" (Recognizing teeth in the nostrils.) / Bodhidharma said, "Do not know" (Seeing the cheekbones from behind the skull). / The Emperor did not connect with it (A square peg does not fit into a round hole). / Thereupon he crossed the river, reached Shaolin, and faced the wall for nine years (Without stagnant goods, a house is not rich).
