舉。雪峯示眾云。南山有一條鼈鼻蛇。汝等諸人切須好看（提起坐具云。這箇不是倩來底）長慶云。今日堂中大有人喪身失命（聞風便颺）僧舉似玄沙（壘不過三）沙云。須是我稜兄始得（狐朋狗黨）然雖如是我即不恁麼（別有一條長便請拈出）僧云。和尚作麼生（毒蟲頭上措痒）沙云。用南山作麼（只者鼇鼻猶為分外）雲門以拄杖攛向峯面前作怕勢（何得自傷己命）。

Case: Xuefeng instructed the assembly, saying, 'On Southern Mountain there is a blunt-nosed snake; all of you people must watch it closely!' (Holding up his sitting cloth, he says, 'This was not borrowed.') Changqing said, 'Today in the hall many people have lost their bodies and lives.' (Hearing the wind, he takes flight.) A monk recounted this to Xuansha. (It cannot exceed three layers.) Xuansha said, 'It takes my brother Leng to manage this.' (A gang of foxes and dogs.) 'Even so, with me it is not so.' (There is another long one; please bring it out.) The monk said, 'How is it with the Venerable?' (Scratching an itch on the poisonous insect's head.) Xuansha said, 'What use is Southern Mountain?' (Even this blunt-nosed one is beyond bounds.) Yunmen threw his staff down in front of Xuefeng and made a posture of fright. (Why injure your own life?)
