2.52

舉雪峯示眾云。南山有一條鼈鼻蛇。汝等諸人。切須好看。長慶云。今日堂中。大有人喪身失命。僧舉似玄沙。沙云。須是稜兄始得。然雖如是。我即不恁麼。僧云。和尚作麼生。沙云。用南山作麼。雲門以拄杖。攛向峯面前作怕勢。頌曰。

Pointer: Xuefeng instructed the assembly, saying, "On the South Mountain there is a turtle-nosed snake; all of you must take a good look at it." Changqing said, "Today in the hall, many people have lost their lives." A monk related this to Xuansha. Xuansha said, "It had to be Brother Leng to manage it. Even though it is so, I would not be like that." The monk said, "What would the Venerable do?" Xuansha said, "What use is the South Mountain?" Yunmen took his staff, tossed it in front of Xuefeng, and made a gesture of fright. The verse says:
