舉。僧問曹山。靈衣不掛時如何（蟭蟟脫殼猶抱寒枝）山云。曹山今日孝滿（不負平生）僧云。孝滿後如何（寬行大步）山云。曹山愛顛酒（有何不可）。

A monk asked Caoshan, 'When the mourning clothes are not worn, how is it?' (The cicada sheds its shell, still clinging to the cold branch.)
Caoshan said, 'Today Caoshan's mourning is fulfilled.' (He has not betrayed his whole life.)
The monk said, 'What about after the mourning is fulfilled?' (Striding broad and wide.)
Caoshan said, 'Caoshan loves to be crazy drunk.' (What is wrong with that?)
