師云。洞山初禪師指通機頌云。洞山寥索一無可有。無味之談塞斷人口。直饒巧饌千般。爭奈飽人不愛。若是餓鬼相嚵噇底。橫咬竪咬狗齧枯骨相似。直待嚼破舌頭。擲在一邊。却與雲門相見。相見後如何。各各面皮厚三寸。

The Master said: Chan Master Dongshan Chu's verse on 'Pointing Out the Piercing Function' says, 'Dongshan is desolate, with not a thing to have; / Flavorless talk blocks people's mouths. / Even with a thousand kinds of delicacies, / How can you help it if a sated person cares nothing for them?' If one has the appearance of a hungry ghost, ravenously devouring, it is like biting horizontally and gnawing vertically, as a dog chews on a dry bone. Only when he chews until his tongue is broken and flings it aside will he meet Yunmen. After they meet, how is it? Each has skin on his face three inches thick.
