Dongshan said, 'In what way?' (Blaming you for being late.) Mi said, 'Like a commoner appointed as prime minister.' (Ascending into the sky from the ground is easy.) Dongshan said, 'An old man of your years making such talk!' (Almost letting it pass.) Mi said, 'What about you?' (A person has no mind to harm the tiger, and the tiger has no intent to hurt the person.) Dongshan said, 'An illustrious clan for generations, temporarily fallen into poverty.' (Letting go from empty space is hard.)
