Whenever Upādhyāya Juzhi was questioned, he would only raise one finger. Later, there was an attendant boy. When an outsider asked, "What Dharma essential does the upādhyāya teach?", the boy also raised his finger. When Juzhi heard of this, he sliced off the boy's finger with a blade. The boy, bearing the pain, cried out and ran away. Juzhi called after him again; the boy turned his head, and Juzhi then raised his finger. The boy suddenly had an awakening. When Juzhi was about to pass away, he said to the assembly: "I obtained Tianlong's one-finger Chan, and have used it throughout my life without exhausting it." Having finished speaking, he manifested extinction.
