頭角纔生已不堪。擬心求佛好羞慚。迢迢空劫無人識。
肯向南詢五十三（大慧既說功勳五位。乃云。爾道。他古人意果如是乎。若只如此。有甚奇特。只是口傳心授底葛藤。既不如是目道古人意作麼生）。

As soon as horns begin to sprout, it is already intolerable;
To produce a mind seeking Buddha is truly shameful.
Remotely distant through the kalpa of voidness, unknown to anyone,
Would one be willing to head south to consult the fifty-three?
(After Dahui explained the Five Ranks of Merit, he then said: "You say: was that ancient's meaning really like this? If it were only like this, what extraordinary thing would there be? It would merely be the entangling vines of oral transmission and mind-to-mind bestowal. Since it is not like this, tell me: what was the ancient's intention?")
