1.46

The Master said: "Kalyāṇamitras! All of you should recite and retain this verse. If you practice in accordance with this verse, even if you are a thousand li away from Huineng, you will constantly be at Huineng's side; if you do not practice in accordance with this, you will be a thousand li away though face to face. Each of you must cultivate yourself; the Dharma does not wait for anyone. Everyone may disperse for now. Huineng is returning to Caoxi Mountain. If sentient beings have any great doubts, come to that mountain, and I will resolve your doubts for you, so that you see the buddhadhātu together." The entire assembly of officials, monastics, and laity bowed to the Upādhyāya, and none did not sigh in praise: "Excellent! Great awakening, the likes of which has never been heard before! Lingnan is blessed; a living Buddha is here, but who could have known?" Thereupon all dispersed.
