答。前五識具六業。瑜伽論云。一唯了別自境所緣。二唯了別自相。三唯了別現在。四唯一剎那了別。五隨意識轉。隨善染轉。隨發業轉。六能取愛非愛果。

Answer: The first five consciousnesses possess six functions. The *Yogācārabhūmiśāstra* says: 'First, discriminating only their own intentional objects; second, discriminating only their own characteristics (svalakṣaṇa); third, discriminating only the present; fourth, discriminating only for a single instant; fifth, operating in accordance with the manovijñāna, operating in accordance with the wholesome or defiled, and operating in accordance with the initiation of karma; sixth, being able to grasp pleasant and unpleasant retributions.'
