答。天堂地獄苦樂之相。皆是自心果報業影。既以自心所作為因。還以自心所受為果。故經云。未有自作他受。今且約地獄界受苦。以證唯心。十法界中。例皆如是。

Answer: The characteristics of suffering and pleasure in the heavens and hells are all the karmic shadows of the retribution of one's own mind. Since what is created by one's own mind serves as the cause, what is experienced by one's own mind in turn serves as the effect. Thus a sūtra says: “Never has one created and another received.” Now we shall briefly take the experience of suffering in the hell realm to prove mind-only; among the ten dharma realms, all follow this example.
