答。六根六境。雖則離合不同。皆唯識變。味性本空。若非是識。誰知鹹淡。古師云。只喫相分。本質自在。

Answer: Although the six faculties and six objects differ in parting and meeting, they are all transformations of consciousness-only. The nature of taste is fundamentally empty. Were it not for consciousness, who would know salty or bland? An ancient master said: "One only eats the nimittabhāga; the original substance (bimbamātra) remains as it is."
