91.12

問。經云菩薩關閉一切諸惡趣門者。夫一切眾生。隨自心業。各受苦報。所以經偈云。假使百千劫。所作業不亡。因緣會遇時。果報還自受。云何菩薩能關一切惡趣門。

Question: Sūtras say that the bodhisattva shuts the gates of all bad destinies. Yet all sentient beings receive painful retributions according to the karma of their own minds; hence a sūtra verse says: / "Even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, / the karma that is created does not perish; / when causes and conditions converge, / one still receives the retribution oneself." / How can a bodhisattva shut the gates of all bad destinies?
